SACRED MUSIC FESTIVAL
Saturday, March 3, 2007
Eastminster Presbyterian Church Chapel
1958 N Webb Rd in Wichita
You are cordially invited to participate in our 2007 Sacred
Music Festival on March 3, 2007. This will be an excellent opportunity for
students of all instruments to prepare music which could also be useful for
performance in their churches, retirement homes or other settings. Hymns,
folk and gospel, contemporary Christian, praise music or any other sacred
music would be appropriate. In addition to solo performers, we are encouraging
ensembles with varied instrumentation to participate as well. The chapel at
Eastminster Presbyterian Church has a grand piano and pipe organ, and a Clavinova
will be available, if needed. Music stands for voice, wind and string performers
will also be provided. Please encourage your students to take part in this
event! (Ensembles may include friends or family members of your students,
as long as one person in each group is a student of a WMMTA teacher.) Please
do not use photocopied music.
Registration fees are $8.00 for individual performers or $15.00 for duets
or other ensembles. If a teacher plays a duet with a student, the fee is $8.00
for that entrant.
Click here to open and print off as many
registration forms as you need and return with payment by February 1, 2007
(sooner, if possible) to:
Marlene Hallstrom
5311 East 27th Street North
Wichita, KS 67220.
For ease of bookkeeping, please send one check per studio. Checks should
be made payable to WMMTA.

Beth Grace, featured presenter at WMMTA's mini-retreat
in August, will be joining us for an afternoon of discussion related to helping
students achieve "beautiful tone without tension." Beth will be
available to answer questions or concerns you have run across as you've been
working with your students in this area. Please e-mail specific questions
to Sally Buxton by January 13 (strbux@cox.net).
Beth is also offering slots to individual teachers who would like to schedule
a session for themselves or members of their studio. Time slots must be scheduled
with Sally Buxton by January 13 via e-mail (strbux@cox.net) or phone (744-3577)
and are available at the rate of $25/half hour or $45/hr.
A Vocabulary for
Preparing for Excellence
Sat., January 6, 3:30-5:00 p.m. Senseney Music
2300 E. Lincoln
Presenter: Christy Williams Panel: Christy Williams (piano), Annetta Smith (violin, viola), Marilyn
Hitchcock (flute), Loretta Ewing (guitar), Laura Vollen (saxophone)
Observe first-hand as Christy opens this presentation by working
with a student who is willing to work purposefully toward a stated goal.
The presentation will continue with an informative discussion
by panel members of the musical terms used when dealing with different instruments.
Sure to expand our own vocabulary, this discussion will help teachers find
new and innovative ways to work with students to help create a heightened
awareness of all the tone and shape possibilities of their own instruments.
